Hoka take two

Hoka. It's not pronounce huka! I get the looks from sales people when I say it that way. I'm sure they get that all the time.
I ran my 5k test today. It happened to be at the Pro-Motion Love em or Leave em 5k at Green Lake park. I volunteer for Pro-Motion at various races and get a free entry for the race. I can save the free entry and use it at a later race. For someone on a limited training budget this is great. It is lots of fun as well. They have several races throughout the year. If you want to join me for some fun let me know.I did ok on my test. I race 10 seconds slower than my last Green Lake run in November. I could breath though due to my pre-race inhaler and did not feel as yucky.
The Hoka Bodni 3's did not work. I got half a size smaller but they were still too big and rubbed on the outside of my left ankle. While I was at Green Lake I went to my favorite running store, Road Runner Sports, and took them back. Love their 90 day guarantee! They did not have Bondi 3 in store so I tried on Bondi 4. Right size but still rubbed. Sales girl ended up giving me Clifton's to try. Hoka's lightest shoe and fit great! A little more cost but not much, $116. A lot of money but I can double the miles in them. When I finally nail down the right shoe I can go to Runningwearhouse.com and get them cheaper. Way cheaper. But for now just trying to figure the right shoe for me.

Hoka Clifton
This is my snack bin. Either I need to eat more or buy less. It's getting a little full. Some of you may know that I mainly eat Paleo. Sometimes I cheat. Oh well. I ate really bad in November and December  and gained weight on purpose knowing I will be starting my training off right with doing the Whole9 for 30 days in January. I feel so good after that 30 days! I could use the extra fat for my IM training.

Thanks for reading!
Have a blessed day!

I had my moment!

Finally had an aha moment in my swimming! (Aha -- noun, Informal. 1. a point in time, event, or experience when one has a sudden insight or realization. Dictionary.com) I've actually have had a few aha moments with swimming. It is so technical. Rowing was the same way. But at least with rowing I could power through a race and still breath with out fear of drowning. I was on top of the water, not in.
Anyway, today was a pretty good swim. I used my dragging shorts today. It gets so hard with these things. My arms were cooked by the last set of my workout. This is the second week I have been using them and with only one swim a week for now.
My breakthrough moment came after I had watched a series of videos, but particularly one. The early vertical forearm or the high-elbow pull has been so hard to understand and to perform for me. I found this set of videos this week and tried it in the pool today and it was like a switch was flipped! I hope this helps you.

I am anxious for open water swimming (OWS). So what do I do? I order a Safer Swimmer buoy of course. Barely through my second of seven months of Ironman training and I want to swim in the lakes around here. I know the more I do the better I will get. Always improving!

Into month two

See. This is why I'm not good with blogs. I have my days filled with husband, work, training, chihuahua's, Ruby and the cats. Alfredo would probably say that he's at the end of this list. There's all the other stuff in between as well. I didn't include church because along with my lack of blogging, going to church has not happening much lately. However, when I train or go through my daily life I think of what to put into my blog. I think things through and maybe jot my thought down. I write my blog every day in my head. On that note, I think and pray to God every day too. He's is on the top of my list. God gets me through my journey and I pray for the day that I find my purpose. I would like to hope that it involves my quest for Ironman and beyond. Only God knows.
